Ken Palmer BA (Hons) PGCE Dip Counselling MBACP

Ken Palmer was born and grew up in Plymouth. After leaving the University of Birmingham with a degree in Theatre Arts, he went into education in 1986, working in four mixed comprehensive schools in Oxford, as Head of English and Drama and Behaviour Management Director. In 1998 studied Psychodynamic Counselling at Brookes University. His work now in both school and as a therapist centre on using psychodynamic principles as a means of encouraging children and adults to explore the blocks and behaviours that hinder them in moving forward in both the relationship they have with themselves and others.

Key areas of interest are adolescence, life and work-related issues.

Dr Vanessa Pilkington is a chartered psychologist with substantial experience working with emotionally distressed clients experiencing depression, anxiety disorders, addiction, stress, trauma, bereavement, psychosomatic issues, relational and marital difficulties and general adjustment disorders. She worked in the NHS for 7 years before setting up in private practice 6 years ago. Her interests include the varying ways people experience emotional suffering that comes to be diagnosed as a psychological disorder and has completed PhD research in depression.

Amanda Stevens Dip Counselling (Dist) MBACP (Co-founder and Director)

Amanda studied at Birkbeck University, LC&CTA and trained in Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy at the Institute of Psychiatry at Manchester University. Amanda's core training is Person-Centred and Psychodynamic with further training in CBT.

Amanda deeply believes therapy is a collaborative enterprise. She values the whole client and appreciates the quality of the therapeutic relationship to aid self-understanding, wellbeing and growth. Matina provides psychological therapy and counselling sessions to clients with a wide variety of mental health issues ranging from everyday difficulties and transitions in life (i.e. Low self esteem, divorce, redundancies, bullying, loss, moving countries etc) to more established diagnoses and chronic symptoms ( i.e. Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Trauma, Personality Disorders etc).

Matina started working in the NHS in 2000 and completed a top up Doctorate degree at City University of London in 2006. She has more than 17 years experience in senior positions within the NHS and private organisations. She is trained in the application of several therapeutic models and specialises in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and third wave CBT (e.g. mindfulness, acceptance commitment therapy).

She believes that peoples’ needs are very specific and cannot always be met by one therapeutic model. She would therefore always choose the best suited type of therapy according to their presenting problem and expectations from therapy in order to maximise their benefit.

She is involved in supervising trainees and qualified psychologists. Lauren has 15 years NHS experience working in busy primary care therapy teams, she is currently working in the Camden & Islington Personality Disorders service. She has specialised in treating adults with single or complex Trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Body Image issues, Obsessions / Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Self-Harm, Mood Swings, Phobias, Panic Disorder, Depression, Low Self Esteem and Anxiety.

Elena is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, registered with the Health & Care Professions Council and accredited with IPT UK. She is also a Supervisor on the BPS Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors.

Elena's therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing from Third Wave CBT approaches, such as Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness Based Therapy. Elena has had over 20 years experience of working in primary care in the NHS, before going into private practice in 2019. During this time she has been helping people from all backgrounds with a wide variety of presentations, including depression, anxiety, loss and bereavement, eating difficulties, work stress and self-esteem.

Elena is an accredited Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) practitioner.
